'How to Drive' unfolds as Katerina immerses herself in her father's car workshop, reclaiming a space that has long felt familiar yet distant to her as a woman.
She endeavors to refamiliarize herself with the place by constructing an everyday narrative, transforming and giving value to all these moments, which are often left unnoticed.
The essence of this project is deeply rooted in the process. Katerina records herself while driving on a daily basis. She takes time to observe each movement, consciously allowing her body to explore its own language, this set of gestures tied to the driver-subject.
As she dives deeper into her exploration, there is a heightened sense of personal ritual, a distinct dance between the body and its surroundings, limbs and car parts. Through an almost cinematic manner, the car is transformed into a ceremonial space where the ordinary and the potential redefine themselves.
In a personal yet inclusive approach, this photobook sparks a shift in our attention from the stories we are told, to our own bodily perception that we often tend to overlook.
This project was honored with the ArtsLibris Banc Sabadell Award 2023 (Barcelona 2023) and attained a place on the shortlist for the PhotoESPANA Best Photography Book Award (Madrid 2023).
